Windows 2000 Troubleshooting
NT Compatible
posted a link
to a ZIP file with instructions and screenshots on how you can get
Live!Ware 3 working in Windows 2000.
Early WDM drivers do not work with SMP systems but Creative has finally managed to get them working and stable in 2002.
Foresto sends us a link to his page with some tips to improve performance.

I'm using SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital Deluxe which probably is only available in China. I can't find any introduction of drivers about this card in creative.com. I use it in a dual-processing system under Windows 2000.
DVDs and games work fine without any problems. Since I'm using PowerDVD and the AC-3 out is also good. But one problem is that the sound is skipping when playing MP3 musics(plays too fast). This appears on all wave-like files and music players.
I've then tried a software called "SMP SeeSaw Pro", which can bring certain programs/services onto a certain processor and run on that processor only(rather than let W2k balance for the loads). I move all Creative services and the mediaplayer to one processor and the sound skipping problem fixed.
However, this is just a temporary workaround, since Windows 2000 will reset everything during startup. But we can tell Creative's engineers that SBLive! or its drivers surely have some problems within SMP systems.

I just thought I'd let you know that I have Liveware 3.0 working with Windows 2000 Server edition. A few problems did arise that I hope to clarify for other users.
A) Terminal serives (if used) MUST be in install mode. This will NOT work simply by going to Add/Remove programs, beacuse Liveware 3.0 will not run at the same time as UninstallShield. You must go to Add/Remove Windows Components, and change Terminal Services to Remote Administration Mode.
B) I ran into a problem with hardware resources that was rectified only by moving my Sb Live to a lower slot on the motherboard, It likes 1 - 3.
C) Maybe someone else can help me with this, but as far as live!surround goes, I don't get jack squat from my digital out port when it is enabled. go figure.

I installed the Soundblaster LiveWare! W2K drivers today and got the
fatal Blue Screen of Death upon system reboot. After about two hours of
trial and error, I tried the fix suggested elsewhere on your
site--renaming the "ctmm32.dll" file to "ctmm32.old". This was located
in the c:\winnt\system32 folder.
Please pass along that the only way to
rename this file was under an MS-DOS command prompt. It could not be
done from within Windows--I got the message "cannot rename this file as
it is in use by Windows" or some such silliness! Anyway, after renaming
the .dll file above, the install process was flawless an the LiveWare!
works very well.

OK, my machine doesn't crash (lucky me), but DirectSound
has some serious problems. If I try to use Winamp while making even a
"click"-sound by opening a folder for example, Winamp starts going snap
crackle and pop. Many DirectSound programs crackle all the time, but they
all go nuts eventually if I try to play two sounds at the same time. Solution:
Goto Multimedia Properties/Audio/ Sound Playback/ Advanced/Performance
and move the hardware acceleration slider left to Basic acceleration.
Everything works fine. BUT this is not the way it should work. I should
be able to use at least Standard acceleration, and in Win98 I can use
Full acceleration just fine. What's up Creative?

On you're website I saw there were some problems with
installing the SBLive! under Win2k. I don't know if this is a commen problem
but I had problems with installing too. I haven't downloaded the creative
drivers yet so my experiences are with the SBLive! drivers from microsoft
and with the LiveWare 3 drivers, installed as was written by someone on
the internet.
The problem occurs when I want to work with Win2K
while there are 2 SBLive!'s in my computer. The first problem arose while
installing Win2k. It always crashed on the same moment. After a
while I figured out that it was while detecting hardware and that, if
I removed one SBLive! from my computer everything works fine. Later I
noticed that if I put the second SBLive! back in Win2k crashed while starting
up.
The only solution I could find whas starting up in
safe mode and disabling a SBLive!. It doesn't do anything
different than if I would just leave out the second SBLIve! but my computer
is running on both Win98 and Win2k and under Win98 I use both SBLive!'s.
Once again this is while using non-creative approved drivers so I don't
know if this is relevant to the newly released drivers. I also encountred
problems with my SBLive! connected with the Live!Drive and the Digital
I/O card which I didn't had with the SBLive! without anything attached.

| 4 Digital Outputs?! |
|
The Sound Blaster Live! has 4 separate S/PDIF digital outputs, with each of them carrying stereo (left & right)!
These outputs are available on a I/O card with the Digital DIN output.
The latest SBLive! 5.1 series uses 3 of these outputs to carry 6 channels of information.
