Audio Recording & Noise Reduction Tips

Noise Reduction with CoolEdit contributed by Mark

Try using Cool Edit 96. The noise reduction routines are incredible. Record a couple of seconds of "silence" at the beginning or end of your song. About 3 or 4 seconds. This gives Cool Edit a blank to gather statistical info on. Select the silent portion then click on the noise reduction button and choose "Get profile from selection". This tell Cool Edit what's NOT supposed to be there. Then select the entire wave file and click on the "noise reduction" button again. This time, just choose "Ok". The process takes about 1 min/3 megs of sample on a 300Mhz Pentium. I've done this with a Didjeridu, and an Indian Flute. Both recordings have resulted in quality I was pleased to make a soundfont from.

4 Digital Outputs?!

The Sound Blaster Live! has 4 separate S/PDIF digital outputs, with each of them carrying stereo (left & right)!

These outputs are available on a I/O card with the Digital DIN output.

The latest SBLive! 5.1 series uses 3 of these outputs to carry 6 channels of information.
