No Sound from Center Speaker
I've looked EVERYWHERE on the web to find out how to fix this problem. It seems everyone has this problem also. Anyways, I have a Sound Blaster 5.1 Live sound card and the Creative Inspires 5.1 Speakers. Well, when I test out the speakers on the Creative Diagnostics all the speakers work. But when I play PC games or listen to music or watch DVDs the center speaker won't work. I already changed the Windows Media Player, Power DVD, and other program settings to play 5.1 surround sound, but to no avail. Can you please help me out? Thanks!
This is the standard behavior when playing stereo audio on the Live! 5.1. No sound will be output from the center speaker unless you are playing a 5.1 DVD, games with DirectSound3D (3D audio) or you have CMSS (stereo to 5.1 upmixing) turned on in PlayCenter.
Drivers for Download
Help! I misplaced my CD and now I can only get stereo sound with the default drivers. Can you send them to me or tell me where I can download them?
Creative now does not provide the full driver CD for download, and I cannot start distributing them or I could get sued. Your best bet would be to contact Creative and purchase the driver CD from them. It would contain the latest revisions of the drivers utilities.
Connecting to AC Receivers
Can I connect to a Dolby Digital or DTS AV receiver with a digital (optical or coaxial cable)?
You will need to use 3 pairs of analog stereo mini-jack to RCA cables to connect the Live! 5.1 or Audigy to an AV (Dolby Digital or DTS) receiver.
In addition, you need to check that your AV receiver has 6 analog RCA input connectors, to take in each of the 6 channels (in a 5.1 configuration).
Non-5.1 Live! cards do not have the center and woofer channels, but you can still obtain 4.0 sound if you connect the front and rear line outs to the AV receiver with analog cables.
Connecting digitally using coaxial or optical will only give you 2 channels (left & right) because the Live! and Audigy does not output in 5.1 (Dolby Digital or DTS) unless you are playing back audio from DVDs with a software that supports S/PDIF passthrough.
Dolby Digital Encoding
Will there be any software drivers in the future that will reprogram the
soundblaster live cards to encode a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal for hifi steareo
recivers.
Jason
No, because the EMU10K1 architecture was not designed for this purpose. Besides AC3 encoding requires a more powerful DSP and an algorithm licence from Dolby Labs. The Audigy does not support AC3 encoding as well.
Live!Drive
I just purchased a Live!Drive but it doesn't come with any software.
Just connect the Live!Drive and Live!Ware 2 and above should be able to detect the Live!Drive and make the necessary changes to accomodate the Live!Drive.
VXD and WDM Drivers
I'm new in this field? so I wonder what is the difference between VXD & WDM drivers? If anybody can help me, I'll be glad.
VladMax
Windows based on the Win95 kernel, including Win95, Win98 and WinMe support VXD drivers. There are Windows based on the NT kernel, including WinNT, Win2k and the upcoming WinXP. So to bridge between the Win95 and NT kernels, WDM was introduced and supported in Win98, WinMe and Win2k to pave the way for future driver developments by hardware manufacturers. As the 2 kernels converge into a single Windows operating system (in WinXP) the drivers will be readily available. There are certain technical advantages of WDM. To explore further, you can take a look at the WDM information at MSDN.
Driver Install Crashes
I just downloaded the Live!Ware from Creative's site and once I try to install, it blue screens and crashes my machine. HELP ME!!!
Ther are many causes for this problem that it is very difficult to pinpoint. First you may want to try downloading the drivers again and ensuring that the file is transferred correctly with corruption. Also try to unload/exit any apps in the tray and other resident programs which may conflict with the installation program. All in all, the ultimate aim is to make sure your system is as "pure" as possible without any other junk that will affect the operation. This is more so in Win9x systems than WinNT-based PCs.
