A few days ago, Creative unleashed what may be the most impressive update yet from the Live!Ware program to unsuspecting Live! owners. After messing around with it for some time, I've to say that it kicks so much ass that I have to tear myself away just to write a mini-review of it. This, even though it's not really Live!Ware 3.0 but just a "normal" Live!Ware update. Read on to see what's so cool about this update and why ALive! thinks that it has the potential to change the whole internet audio scene.
The Live!Ware update just released is actually a "ground-breaking" technology called LAVA! , which stands for Live! Audio Visual Animation. So, what is LAVA! all about? In a nutshell, LAVA! allows you to experience surreal 3D animation that dances to any music source. At this point in time, you may let out a big yawn.... 3D animation that dances to a music source ? ... what's so cool about that ? Well, to see how cool it is while in action, you really have to download the software and try it out yourself ... for now, I will just give you a snapshot of a LAVA! scene in action ( Fig 1 ).....

Fig 1 : Blow it up full screen !!
Software
The whole LAVA! package actually comes in 2 main components - the core software itself and a updated PlayCenter that incorporates LAVA! technology. Included in the package are 8 ready-made LAVA! scenes. Altogether, the download weighs in at about 7 MB , which must be a relieve for all of us who has thin pipelines !
The minimum requirements ( yes, there's a minimum requirement.. ) to use the software is as follows :
- P2-300
-
64MB RAM
-
OpenGL compliant 3D acceleration card ( eg TNT )
- and
SB Live! ...of coz
Quite a hefty requirement huh ? But this actually isn't far off from the standard requirements to play a 3D game today.
