Should You Buy The DTT2500?
If
you need Dolby Digital decoding, and you have a 4-channel sound card,
this speaker system would be a great companion.
Or if you have any other novel uses for the DTT2500 that
I have discussed under Connection
Options, this would work well too.
On the other hand, if you just require the ability to play
music and games on a 2-channel sound card, a normal 2-channel speakers
will do.
With a 4-channel sound card, it boils down to whether you
want to do Dolby Digital decoding, or whether you want to listen to music
with a left/center/right configuration.
Improvements
We can never have enough! Here are some improvements that
I would like to see in future speakers from Cambridge SoundWorks:
- A remote control would come in handy!
- DTS decoding
- Dolby EX & DTS ES decoding (these provide an addition rear surround
channel in the center for DVDs which are encoded with these formats)
- The mute button should mute everything. Right now it doesn't mute
the subwoofer output for the external subwoofer! (Or I have a faulty
set.)
- Memory to remember the last operating mode after the unit is powered
off
- In FourPoint mode, the center speaker should be used to provide better
directionality
The Lowdown
The DTT2500 is an affordably priced set of speakers offering
Dolby Digital decoding and built-in support for 4-channel sound cards,
making it a compelling speaker system for desktop entertainment.
