drivers & Live!Ware

for

July 2002: Eddie informs us that a new "media driver" is available at Windows update:

April 2002: The new Windows Compatibility update for April 2002 fixed some compatibility issues with the Audigy. The entry in the list (among many game titles) is: "Audigy Utilities - Creative Labs".

Warning! (November 2001): Microsoft has a knowledge base article that states the Live! driver that comes bundled with WinXP has a memory leak that may slow down your PC. Article: Memory Leak Occurs with SoundBlaster Live! Device Driver. Download the latest versions from Creative or Windows Update!

October 27, 2001: Official WinXP drivers are available here.

October 25, 2001: Jeffrey Lephew sends us a screen capture of the latest WDM drivers available on Windows Update.

August 26, 2001: We got new information and some screenshots of the drivers in build 2600. Thanks to Joao Barros and Ryan Stotts for sending them to us!

Not much information here yet, but we've got a scoop from an anonymous source on WinXP build 2486:

I thought you'd like to know that in this build of WinXP there is an even newer version of the WDM Driver. This is a joint effort between Creative and Microsoft and should be the driver that makes it into the Final release:

It isn't a basic driver (i.e. it supports the live drive etc etc) but you don't get any of the Creative controls (AudioHQ etc) with it.

The actual WDM version is 5.12.01.3300 and filename is emu10k1m.sys.

The drivers are reported to support the Live!Drive.

Other Info: Microsoft has put up a page on the MP3 capabilities of Windows XP.

Please send in information on the capability of the SBLive! in WinXP, especially if you have tried the pre-release.

I just installed Release Candidate 1 of Windows XP, and I must tell you that after tons of problems with XP Build 2462 and NO AC3, RC1 has fixed ALL of it. I installed Power DVD, and the SPDIF pass-through worked PERFECTLY!!!

The build of the WDM driver included with RC1 is 5.1.2505.0

Finally, someone gets it right!

Having my sb live for along time and knowing that it worked great for along time i've stuck with it hoping these issues would work out with creative/via/ms updates, seems around the time i added an ATA100 drive and updated to WinXp 2428 all my problems started (random lockups, idle, games video playback would always lock with the ugly sound looping crap, which only the reset button would get me out of... i tried everything, different OS's , irq tweaking, re-installing and de-installing cards, bios tweaking, latency/via patches etc... Nothing worked at all!!! until the recent build of XP2485 -- w/Xp2485 all my probs were gone!, well after installing the newer XP builds 2493 ads serv and then xp2495 the probs were back in both those builds and it was harsh knowing they had fixed it at least for me and then trashed it again, but now after getting ahold and installing the latest WDM3300 drivers (which i believe may be from XP2485 beacuse they are the only ones that solved all my probs), All my probs are gone again...
Whoohoo!!!! If Your having probs similiar to mine i suggest u give the latest
WDM 5.12.01.3300 they have worked great for me, its about time that i have a good working set of drivers for my sblive again...

I'm running WinXP 2495 with a Live! Platinum w/ Live Drive II and so far everything seems to work without having ANY Creative software installed at all. I'm listening to MP3's through headphones jacked into the front panel as I type. Volume is reasonable and doesn't start off too high. Under the driver properties it shows as MS as being the author and the version is 5.1.2495.

If you install the 3300 drivers over the OS provided ones you don't get access to the Mixer or Speaker configuration. Sound only comes from the front speakers, as well. With just the OS drivers, you can use the Sounds Control Panel to pick your speaker load-out and get surround, quadrophonic, etc....
