It works fine other than the text is garbled in some control panels involving the soundcard, but the AC3 works, but one note is the software AC3 decoding kept crashing, but luckily ive got a Hardware Decoder! Worth the installation, I missed AC3 and WinDVD |

I had the exact same issue that Cary had. I saw this in both Win98 and Win98 SE. A quick look at my specs Abit KT7A-Raid After installing the drivers, the TDK would go bye-bye in the same way that happened to Cary. The fix I came up with for it was I disabled the Sound Blaster Emulator, and rebooted. That seemed to fix the issue for me. Good luck! |

Hi, |

Setup: KT7-RAID On ATA66 controller Win98SE Situation: I downloaded and installed the new Official 5.1 drivers, to see if they worked any better than the original version I got with the card. The driver install seemed to work quite well, but after rebooting I noticed that my CDRW drive was not showing a drive letter under windows. The drive still shows up under Device Manager (with its former drive letter assignment in properties); but a selection for the drive does not appear in explorer, nor in Easy CD Creator to recognize the drive. The DVD drive still shows up just fine. I have tracked the problem to the driver install itself, and not the additional AudioHQ and Mixer apps. If I uninstall the drivers and reboot, I get the drive letter assignment back. However, if I reinstall the drivers, install the original drivers on top of the new ones, or |

About the new Live! 5.1 drivers. I tested them out and everything sounds about the same. There was one noticable difference, the "Alien Lifeform" preset was changed. I think most of the updates in this latest driver set are purely internal things that just fix certain hardware issues. |

Just a thought regarding the 5.1 WDM drivers: maybe Creative won't release them to public download because of licencing issues with Dolby. Seems to me that through all of its incarnations, the SBlive has never been altered all that much. I'm wondering if the Dolby 5.1 decoding is done in software, or the emu10k1 (which I suspect to be identical to the emu10k1 used in non-5.1 products), and these software routines are done in the drivers? Basically, I'm wondering if the 5.1 drivers actually do provide AC3 decoding on older Live cards. I intend to try running these drivers on my MP3+, just to see |
